Study 1: THE VICTORIOUS LIFE

Psalm 119:1-12

God has not designed that believers should live defeated lives. The christian life is meant to be exciting and fulfilling. It actually starts with the power of God and sustained by the same power. As many as received Him.....gave He power (John 1:12). All through the Scriptures God’s purpose has been that His people live victoriously in a manner that the world around them will be challenged (1 Peter 2:9; Philippians 1:27; 2:15,16; 1 Peter 3:1-5; Matthew 5:13-16). Many have been defeated because of lack of proper understanding of God’s provision for victory (Hosea 4:6; Isaiah 5:13). The problem with others has been sheer neglect of God’s ordained path. All can be victorious if the divine precepts are followed. There cannot be a successful christian without a strict adherence to scriptural principles. From our text we are considering six important ingredients for the victorious life - i) Recognition of the Way ii) Respect for the Word iii) Resolute in Walk iv) Regular in Watching v) Resignation to His Will vi) Reality in Worship.

RECOGNITION OF THE WAY (Psalm 119:1)

John 14:6; Matthew 7:13,14; Hebrews 10:19,20; Ephesians 2:7,8; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Ezekiel 3:20; 1 John 5:18

Victory has eluded many because of a non-realization of christianity as a distinct and unique way. How one gets into the way is definite and different from that of worldly systems. Compliance with the demands of the way means victory.

RESPECT FOR THE WORD (Psalm 119:2,5,8,9,11)

Psalm 119:47,72,97,105; 19:8; Jeremiah 15:16; Proverbs 6:23; 30:6; Deuteronomy 12:32; Acts 17:11; Romans 15:4; Matthew 4:4; 5:18; Isaiah 34:16; Amos 2:4

God’s word is powerful. There is guarantee of divine support as His word is sought diligently, and kept wholeheartedly. No part of God’s revelation should be allowed to fall to the ground.

RESOLUTE IN WALK (Psalm 119:1,3)

Psalm 57:7; 15:1-5; Genesis 39:7-9; Job 31:1; Isaiah 1:21

Every one should make a firm decision to be consistent in following after God. One gets only what he earnestly desires and decides for.

REGULAR IN WATCHING (Psalm 119:5,10,12)

Job 34:32; Psalm 139:23,24; 2 Corinthians 13:5; Luke 22:31; 14:38; 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8

He who does not watch and walk circumspectly will get into the enemy’s snare unknowingly. Looking up to God for strength and guidance is essential for continuous victory. If the devil attempted on Simon’s life without his knowledge, he can do the same today! WATCH!!

RESIGNATION TO HIS WILL (Psalm 119:3,5,6,10-12 )

Psalm 40:8; Matthew 12:50; 26:42; John 8:29

There cannot be that permanent victory until the believer accepts the totality of God’s word as His will and conforms to it. Acceptance and pursuance of that which God has revealed ensure peace and prosperity.

REALITY IN WORSHIP (Psalm 119:7,4,9,10,12)

Worship of God in laid down terms has tremendous impact on human life. Worship should be done wholeheartedly, diligently, and with a cleansed life.
